OpenGL support allowed Perl programmers to experiment with 3D graphics, rendering, shaders, geometry, and visual demonstrations. Perl OpenGL work is historically interesting, but it should be presented honestly. Perl was never the mainstream language for high-performance commercial 3D engines. However, OpenGL bindings made Perl useful for experiments, teaching, visualization, prototypes, demos, and custom tools.
