The Perl Guilds wiki is a community-driven resource designed to support freelance and independent Perl programmers and help them thrive in their trades. The original wiki concept was inspired by FreePascal's community wiki.

Transforming Perl by Striving for Virtue

The infamous three "virtues" of a Perl programmer are not what you have been led to believe. They are bad, very bad. Please view this to learn more about the true virtues of Perl: Prudence, Spiritedness, and Good Order.

God is the Creator and the source of every good gift and talent. The programmer does not create from nothing; he receives intelligence, opportunity, tools, knowledge, and the labor of earlier craftsmen, and is responsible for developing these gifts and ordering them toward truthful service.

Mastery therefore carries obligations. The apprentice, journeyman, master, customer, and user possess the same God-given dignity, while greater skill creates greater duties of justice, humility, patience, stewardship, and care.

The Virtuous Perl Programmer essays apply these principles to the daily work of programming: choosing tools, forming apprentices, using AI, respecting licenses, protecting users, earning a just livelihood, and bringing software to completion.

I hope to convey these ideals through this resource, and I hope you can help me.
